Hand Controls
If you find yourself unable to operate the standard pedals on a vehicle, we can offer push/pull hand controls. These are the most popular driving adaptation: a mechanical device that operates the brake and accelerator on an automatic car. We have these installed on our demonstration vehicle for you to view. If you would like to try them on the road, then we recommend using our local driving instructor.
Electronic Accelerators
There are many electronic accelerators to choose from: over-ring, under-ring or trigger. We recommend trying each one to see which one you like the feel of, then driving a vehicle with them on at an assessment centre.
Left Foot Accelerators
We fit a wide range of LFAs. Depending on the vehicle, we fit twin flip, electronic or floor mounted. The LFA enables you to use your left foot for the operation of the brake and accelerator. For this adaptation, unless you already have an LFA, we strongly recommend an assessment. We don’t however, recommend an LFA, if you have previously driven a manual car..
Pedal Modifications
There are various modifications available for vehicle pedals, from flip up pedals for use with hand controls - providing more leg room, to pedal extensions that bring the pedals closer to the driver's feet.
Steering Aids
Steering aids are ideally suited to drivers with limited mobility in their upper body or in cases where operating other types of hand controls and steering isn’t manageable. Steering aids help ensure driving, parking and general manoeuvring is safer and easier.
Secondary Control System
Controlling a vehicle and operating secondary controls such as the horn, indicators etc. can be difficult for those with limited use of their upper body. A secondary control system is device which includes systems which bring all the controls together, enabling drivers to steer the car and operate multiple functions safely and effectively.
Car Boot Hoist
We fit hoists ranging from 40-200kgs. The lifting capacities can manage anything from a manual wheelchair to a very large scooter or powerchair. A demonstration is essential, so we can understand your requirements and help you to make the right decision. We have hoists installed in our demonstration vehicles so our customers can try them out, and feel confident that they will work for them.
Rooftop Stowage
All Shropshire Mobility fit the Braun top box Chair Topper – this product has been in production for many years now and its simple design ensures reliability in service and provides wonderful independence.
Swivel Seats
A swivel seat can be fitted into the driver or passenger side of a vehicle, providing 90 degrees rotation. This makes getting in and out much easier. They can also be used with a Carony wheelchair base, meaning the seat you are in when sitting in your wheelchair, is the same seat you will sit in once inside the car. It is important to get the right combination, so we always recommend a demonstration.
Milford Person Hoist
Specifically designed for transferring people in and out of vehicles from either wheelchairs or mobility scooters – the Milford Person hoist offers a practical solution to those with little or no mobility. It can be fitted to most types of vehicle, including even the smallest car – the system can also be used in the home or office using a smartbase or wall brackets.
